i am so not cool

When I was a teenager I promised myself that I would be able to relate to my children in a way my parents and grandparents never could. I swore I would maintain some sort of fashion sense and that I would stay hip enough to know the latest music, lingo, and dance moves.

I am only 27 years old and I already feel out of touch with today's youth. I listen to bands like Slipknot and find myself responding the same way my parents did to Metallica. I recently made the transition to the women's department in the clothing store because the young misses department is a little too wild and crazy for me. And now I learn that there is a dance move called "kicking the Smurf". I think this workshop would be a riot. Because who doesn't want to learn how to do dance moves called "Stomping on Goths" and "Oops, I Forgot My Meds Again"?
